The Wackness

July 7th, 2008 · No Comments

The WacknessIt’s the summer of 1994; hip hop and pot are in the air, and newly inaugurated mayor, Rudolph Giuliani is just beginning to implement “anti-fun” initiatives against graffiti, public drunkenness, and noisy portable radios. Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck), a high school senior/pot dealer on his way to college, is sharing his angst with Dr. Squires, (Sir Ben Kinglsey) who trades counseling time for weed. An odd mix of characters including Squires disinterested wife (Famke Janssen), her seductive daughter (Olivia Thirlby), a dreadlock adorned customer (Mary-Kate Olsen), and a strong musical score congeal to create a ripe environment for a couple of lost souls stumbling toward maturity.
